6 Islands Safari Jet Ski Experience
A signature self-drive jet ski safari through Aucklandâs Hauraki Gulf. This full day experience follows an extended route through the waters around six islands, combining open water riding, sheltered cruising and memorable scenery near destinations including Tiritiri Matangi and Kawau Island.
Designed for riders who want to experience more of the Gulf, the Six-Island Safari is our most immersive self-drive jet ski experience, with route advice, real-time GPS tracking and remote support from our local team.
6 Islands Safari in Aucklandâs Hauraki Gulf
This four hour 6 Islands Safari takes you through some of the most scenic waters of Aucklandâs Hauraki Gulf.
You operate one of our Yamaha jet skis and follow a planned island route with GPS tracking and on-call support throughout your trip from our local team.
Duration: 4 hours
From Big Manly Beach to Motuora and the Rewa Shipwreck
Your adventure begins at Big Manly Beach on the WhangaparÄoa Peninsula.
First you travel north towards Motuora Island which normally takes about 30 minutes.
Along the way you can enjoy open water riding and wide views across the Hauraki Gulf. Once you reach the island you may have time to anchor, swim or snorkel in the clear coastal water, depending on the conditions.
From there you continue towards Moturekareka and Motuketekete Islands. The crossing usually takes about 10 minutes.
The Blanche Channel separates the two islands. Nearby the remains of the Rewa shipwreck create one of the routeâs most distinctive sights.
The 309 foot Rewa was a large four masted steel barque weighing around 3,000 tons. Today parts of the wreck remain visible above the water on the north western side of Moturekareka Island.
When conditions suit you can stop in the sheltered water behind the wreck. This gives you another chance to anchor, take photographs or cool off with a swim.
Beehive Island, Kawau Island and the Return Journey
Next you travel towards Kawau Island with the crossing taking about 20 minutes. However, the route includes several memorable sights before you arrive.
You can pass Taungamaro, also known as Beehive Island, and view its small beach from the water. Seabirds and stingrays often use the surrounding coastal area.
Then you can ride past Dispute Cove and see the old copper mine chimney. The industrial ruin also creates a striking background for photographs from the water.
At Kawau Island your planned stop may include time for lunch and refreshments. Depending on the dayâs arrangements you may visit Mansion House Bay and the CafĂ© or the Kawau Boating Club.
Finally you begin the return journey back south to the WhangaparÄoa Peninsula. The return ride normally takes about 60 minutes and gives you more time to enjoy the open Gulf.
Island Scenery and Seasonal Wildlife
Throughout the safari you experience secluded beaches, island coastlines and changing views across the Hauraki Gulf.
You may also see seabirds, stingrays and other marine wildlife along the route. At times, little blue penguins or dolphins may appear in the wider Gulf, although we cannot promise wildlife sightings.
When animals are nearby, slow down and give them plenty of space. In this way you can enjoy the encounter without disturbing their natural movement.
Because this is a longer island experience it suits riders who want more than a short coastal session. It also gives friends, couples and families time to share a full Hauraki Gulf adventure.
Our Yamaha Jet Ski Fleet
Our small fleet of well maintained Yamaha VX Deluxe jet skis offers comfort, stability and reliable performance on longer trips.
Each jet ski can carry two people, subject to a maximum combined weight of 190 kg. Therefore you can ride alone, share the experience with a passenger or travel as a small group using several jet skis.

6 Islands Safari Route with Remote Support
Typical 6-Island Safari Highlights
Weather, sea conditions and rider experience determine the final route, but a typical Six-Island Safari may include the following Hauraki Gulf highlights:
Te Haupa â Saddle Island
The waters around Te Haupa, also known as Saddle Island, provide the first distinctive point along the route. Its recognisable profile, rugged shoreline and surrounding views make it a memorable place to cruise past, pause and take in the wider Hauraki Gulf scenery.
Motuora Island
The route continues through the waters past Motuora Island, known for its attractive coastline, clear water and sheltered bays. Enjoy the surroundings and take photographs.
Moturekareka and Motuketekete Islands
These neighbouring islands are separated by Blanche Channel and provide one of the routeâs most distinctive sections. Riders can view the historic Rewa shipwreck from the water while exploring the surrounding rocky coastline and sheltered marine areas.
Taungamaro â Beehive Island
Taungamaro is one of the Hauraki Gulfâs most recognisable small islands. Its distinctive shape and golden beach with surrounding waters create a memorable scenic point along the journey, with opportunities to observe seabirds and other marine wildlife like stingrays from a respectful distance.
Kawau Island
Kawau Island is a major highlight of the experience, combining dramatic coastal scenery with visible reminders of the islandâs history. The self-drive route may include waters near Dispute Cove, the former copper mine area and Mansion House Bay, where thereâs time to relax at the CafĂ© and enjoy refreshments.
Scenic Return Journey
The return journey towards the WhangaparÄoa Peninsula offers more open-water riding and changing views across the Hauraki Gulf. Along the way, riders may encounter schools of fish, seabirds like penguins and, on rare occasions, dolphins or whales. Wildlife sightings are a natural bonus and cannot be guaranteed.
Final routes, offshore pauses and timing are confirmed on the day according to weather, sea conditions and rider experience, helping provide the safest and most enjoyable self-drive experience possible.
